The beneficiary has passed away

In the unfortunate event that the organizer or beneficiary of a Gohelpme fundraiser passes away, we aim to keep the process as simple as possible for everyone during this challenging time.

In this case, we can transfer the fundraiser to someone else, end the fundraiser, or refund all donations. If any of these changes are to be initiated, the administrator of the deceased organizer or beneficiary’s estate will need to provide the following documents:

Government-issued photo ID: A clear photo of the executor or administrator’s valid driver’s license, national identification card, or passport, laid on a piece of paper with the day’s date written on it.

Obituary or death certificate: A copy of the deceased organizer or beneficiary's obituary or death certificate.

Will or legal documentation: A copy of the deceased organizer or beneficiary's will or other legal documentation appointing the executor.

Click "Contact Us" to get started with this process.

Transfer the fundraiser and funds to the executor or administrator:

The money and control of the fundraiser can be handed over to the person settling the estate (executor or administrator). This lets them manage the fundraiser, including updating the public and setting up ways to receive donations if that wasn't already done.

End the fundraiser and transfer funds to the deceased organizer or beneficiary's account:

In the unfortunate event of the organizer or beneficiary passing away, there are two options for the fundraiser. If the cause it supports still needs funding, the fundraiser and collected donations can be transferred to the person settling the deceased's estate (executor or administrator). This allows them to take control, update the public on the situation, and even set up ways to receive donations if that wasn't already done. However, if continuing the fundraiser isn't feasible, it can be shut down. This stops further contributions and keeps the account under the original organizer's name. Any remaining funds will then be transferred to the linked bank account if that option is set up. If the organizer was supposed to receive the donations directly, the estate executor can work with the organizer's bank to manage those funds.

End the fundraiser and refund donations:

Ending the fundraiser with full refunds is an option for executors if the cause is no longer relevant to the donated funds. This ensures transparency and returns unused money to donors.
